Your corporate world

Here's a question you can answer any way you like, and opens up some interesting discussion:

How does YOUR life feel "corporate" in the twenty-first century?

    Hey Hal,

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this. How does my world feel more corporate? I guess things like the streamlining of products & services...it's harder to find unusual items in stores because they only stock the best-sellers but at the same time, I can find anything I want on the internet...

Plus, I feel inundated with media/advertisements, etc....these days, you can't even use a public washroom without finding an advertisement on the back door.

Is that what you were asking?

  2. thanks for the reply, Natasha. I left it open-ended to see what answers it elicited. I'll paste my thoughts from ffb in a bit.

  3. It seems like the level of corporate "infiltration" into our lives is growing steadily, but I can't say for sure since my awareness of it has also been increasing at what may be the same rate. Maybe it's due to the expansion of technology that provides new means of reaching people. The blatant and not-so-blatant marketing in the physical and digital world seems to be reaching for new heights. Information tracking is another matter altogether.

Personally I've found myself thinking of self-marketing as well, even as I write this post. I wonder if the "branding" aspect of individuals that is afforded by social media will extend to make every person a corporation in the future, matching the opposing notion that is already true (corporations are people).

The flow of information doesn't seem as controlled as exposure on social media, so that the two are blurring. Someone who chooses not to be involved in social media will inevitably have monitored information circling somewhere, and the "branding" may be occurring whether we like it or not.
